Welcome to St. John’s Church

Members of St. John’s congregation have impacted and shaped the character and direction of Newport for 170 years! Serving the Savior and relying on Him, we are one of Newport’s strongest and largest churches whose DNA is that of personally connecting with and serving others. If you are spiritual, but not religious, we want to welcome and encourage you on your journey of faith.  We are located in the historic East Row ‘Mansion Hill’ neighborhood – walking distance from the Newport Aquarium and the Levee shopping and entertainment district. Let us know how we can serve you! Please look around our website. It contains helpful information on worship and events, ministries offered, Sunday school and other education opportunities and many ways to get connected to our church community. God Bless.

Journey Group

This past Monday the two Journey groups (Monday and Wednesday nights) met together and have decided to join forces and meet on Thursday night at 6:00 pm – we welcome new people who might want to join in the lively discussion as the devotional book – We make the road by walking by Brian D. McLaren moves us forward in this journey.

If three or more people can agree, I would be happy to try to begin a daytime group that might meet the needs of people who might not be able to be out after dark.  Please contact me at [email protected]

The next meeting will be Thursday, January 16th at 6:00 p.m.  We will meet in the Chapel. We will be on chapter 20.

Roy Rice Funeral

We are saddened by the loss of our member Roy Rice. Roy was a beloved longtime member of St. John’s who enjoyed attending church and being surrounded by friends of St. John’s. Roy was a US Army Air Force WWII Veteran and a member of Ft. Thomas Lodge No. 808, F. & A.M. Roy was married to Shirley Rice for 62 years and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
The family of Roy Rice would like to invite St. John’s members to the memorial service. The service will take place on Saturday, January 18th beginning at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ. A reception for family and friends will follow the service and will be held in Fellowship Hall.

Eugene Deslongchamps Memorial Service

We are saddened by the loss of our friend Eugene “Gene” Deslongchamps. Gene was married to Erma “Sam” Deslongchamp for 59 years. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Gene was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fishing and boating with his family.
The family of Eugene Deslongchamps would like to invite St. John’s members to the visitation and Mass of Christian Burial. The visitation will take place Friday, January 17th starting at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church (Alexandria), 8246 E. Main Street. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m.
