WHAT WE BELIEVE
(within the United Church of Christ)
Being ‘Pro-Testamentors’, we recognize the Ultimate Authority of the Bible. It is our rule of faith and practice.
Being “Congregational” in polity (government) and practice (lifestyle), we accept differing covenants, confessions, and social stances among individual congregations.
Being “Uniters” in principle and practice, we believe we are all brothers and sisters in Christ and must serve one another.
Being “Trinitarians” we understand that Creator, Christ, and Holy Spirit are three aspects of the same one God.
As “Theists” we believe that God, in love, created the world and is active in it.
As “Christians” we believe that Christ, the only head of the church, seeks to be our personal Savior, forgiving our sin and making us right with God.
As “Spiritualists” we understand that God sent the Holy Spirit to the hearts of believers as the continuing and guiding presence of the Divine in the world.
As “Church People” we see the church as a group of people united in Christ and determined to serve Him through worship, witness, and work.
As a fellowship of “The Saved” we know that forgiveness, grace, and eternal life are promised to all who believe in God through Jesus Christ. This salvation is given; it cannot be earned.
As “Easter People” we know that God keeps promises. ‘Hallelujah’ is our song!
As “Witnesses” we recognize that an important aspect in our faith life is to share with others what we have experienced as Truth. We do this by word and work.
As “Listeners” we believe that “God Is Still Speaking” to those who are still listening. God’s Word is still unfolding.
