Pastor Marty has been privileged to have served St. John’s UCC in the past. Once for 10 months as Designated Pastor (filling in after an Interim while the search process was still in process) and again for a 3 month leave of absence for the settled Pastor. He has returned this time as the Designated/Transitional Pastor and begin officially on Sunday, October 1, 2023.
Pastor Marty felt a call to St. John’s because he feels the congregation is strong an viable and can make a real impact in the future with the direction of a strong minister. Just like other congregations, Marty states that the pandemic effected a lot of groups and they need to reconsider their vision which he feels he can help with St. John’s.
We appreciate all of the work Pastor Marty brings to St. John’s including organizing and leading our Sunday Worship services, providing guidance to our ministry and leadership teams, and even participating in our Chancel Choir.
The most rewarding part of his job is working with people. He loves being with folks – no matter the situation. If he can help or assist them in any way, that is where he feels rewarded. His favorite thing about St. John’s is the worship style and music program.
During his free time you can find Marty taking care of himself (dealing with bone-on-bone pain on both knees) and being an Advocate for his wife who is currently in a Memory Care Unit. He has been married to Betty (his wife) for 40+ years and spent his entire 40+ ordained ministry within the 275 belt loop. He is a 4th generation Pastor in his family. He was 7 years old when the UCC denomination was formed, so he have been in the UCC his entire life.
A fun fact about Marty is that he used to play guitar and was a decent bowler in the day.
