Tony Burdette

Tony joined St. John’s in August of 2025 and has been leading our wonderful Chancel Choir. Tony has a strong history with St. John’s as he was a part of several of the productions and concerts St. John’s has put on over the years and has even brought a few of his Choirs to perform in our Sanctuary for the community to come and listen. Tony says he was drawn to St. John’s because of St. John’s tradition of musical excellence.

Tony comes to St. John’s with an extensive resume of musical talent and experience. Tony earned his musical degrees Bachelor of Arts degrees in Vocal Performance, Church Music, and Music Education from Alderson-Broaddus College (Philippi, West Virginia) and a masters degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM).Tony is the Founding President & Artistic Director of Viva Voices Choral Organization which continues to be a successful and growing company in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region. Tony has led several choirs and orchestras with honors and has performed with several choirs as an accomplished tenor vocalist. Tony is also professional core chorus of Cincinnati Opera and the American Guild of Musical Artists.

We appreciate all Tony does for us directing the Chancel Choir. He helps support our Director of Music Ministries, Michael Sullivan, to plan all of the music for each of our Sunday Worship Services. Tony finds the best part of the job to be having the ability to use music to create a memorable worship experience.

When Tony is not busy practicing with the Chancel Choir, he likes to travel, keep up with current events/news, and spend time with his family. A fun fact about Tony is that his life was miraculous saved six years ago when he had a liver transplant due to a genetic disease that caused liver failure. “I am grateful for a second chance at life and even more determined to use my gifts to honor the Lord.” Tony wants to express his appreciation for the opportunity to work with amazing, committed Christians and talented musicians at St. John’s United Church of Christ!
