2020 has been an interesting year for St. John’s UCC in Newport. When we started the year, no one could of imagined the pandemic we are in currently and the changes we would have to make in order to adapt to the situation. As many of you know, COVID-19 cases have been on the rise in the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati region for the past couple of weeks. Due to this increase in numbers, the Leadership Team and staff decided to cancel the previous two weeks of services (November 15 and November 22).
We decided that as time progressed, we would evaluate and determine if it was safe for us to open back up following this two week closure. With consultation from local and state organizations, SONKA, and the Leadership Team of St. John’s, it was decided that the church would remain CLOSED for the rest of 2020.
This was done to help with social distancing protocols that are being recommended by groups and to promote the health and safety of our members and friends at St. John’s. While we know this is difficult with the Advent and Christmas season approaching, we will still continue on with our services and programs. We will shift everything to an online version of events with updates and information emailed and posted on the website to keep everyone up-to-date.
We hope you all can understand the difficult decision that we had to make. We will continue to evaluate the situation and will let you know when we plan on reopening the church. If you have any questions, please contact the church office or a member of the Leadership Team.
